Caution - One of our members has cause to be concerned that fertility rates in finches have been affected since changing to bleached coconut fibre as a nesting material.

Early indications are that the chemicals used in some batches MAY be leaching through the eggshell and adversely affecting the embryo.

Whilst this is only based on a single report from one member, if you are experiencing a similar increase in dead-in-shell this year,

it may be worth changing the nesting material and seeing if this improves hatch rates.

A further, more in-depth investigation was re-produced in the Summer 2015 edition of the magazine.
